Hull-based quartet bdrmm has unveiled their latest single, "Lake Disappointment," a track that marks a bold evolution in their sound. Departing from their established shoegaze roots, the band delves into a darker, more electronic realm with this release. The song is characterized by tight, hypnotic beats and flickering synths, creating a leaner and grittier atmosphere. Frontman Ryan Smith describes the track as an outlet for the band's pent-up anger, stating, "This is us getting that out, and saying 'fuck you' to the wrongdoers."
The accompanying music video, shot in an abandoned warehouse in Sheffield, complements the track's dystopian vibe. The band spent 12 hours filming in hospital gowns, creating what Smith refers to as "our own dystopian TV shopping channel under strong orders from our bosses at MicroTech."
"Lake Disappointment" is the third single from bdrmm's forthcoming album, "Microtonic," set to be released on February 28, 2025, via Rock Action Records. The album signifies a significant shift for the band, incorporating more dance music elements into their sound—a transformation influenced by experiences such as supporting electronic artist Daniel Avery and attending events like Field Day.
Fans can look forward to experiencing bdrmm's new direction live during their upcoming UK and European tour in March 2025. The tour includes performances in cities such as Newcastle, Hull, Leeds, Glasgow, Manchester, and London, as well as international dates in Cologne, Berlin, Zurich, Milan, Bologna, Paris, Brussels, and Amsterdam.
With "Lake Disappointment," bdrmm continues to push their creative boundaries, offering a fresh and aggressive sound that challenges and excites their audience.
