Bleach the Sky - Wash Away

Bleach the Sky Blend Heavy Emotion and Atmosphere on Wash Away

From Boston, Massachusetts, Bleach the Sky step forward with Wash Away, released March 12, 2026, a record that merges post-grunge weight, post-hardcore intensity, and shoegaze atmosphere into a sound that feels both explosive and immersive. Rooted in alternative rock traditions while embracing modern shoegaze textures, the album captures a band navigating the space between raw power and emotional depth.

Bleach the Sky formed in the late 2010s after its members initially connected online before transforming their collaboration into a fully realized musical project. What began as scattered writing sessions and remote exchanges eventually evolved into a tight and focused band dynamic built through jam sessions and shared songwriting.

Today the group operates primarily as a trio composed of Zach Kraft on rhythm guitar and vocals, Rahul Srinivasan on drums, and Alex Tighe on bass. The stripped-down lineup gives the band’s sound a sharp clarity. Each instrument occupies a defined space in the mix, allowing the songs to hit with both precision and force.

On Wash Away, Bleach the Sky channel multiple strands of alternative rock history. The post-grunge element appears in the heavy yet melodic guitar riffs, recalling the muscular alt-rock of the late 1990s and early 2000s. At the same time, layers of swirling guitars introduce a modern shoegaze dimension, adding depth and texture to the band’s sonic palette.

Emotionally, the music also carries traces of emo and post-hardcore intensity. The arrangements frequently shift between quiet, atmospheric passages and sudden bursts of distortion, creating a sense of dramatic tension. These dynamic contrasts give the record its distinctive emotional push and pull.

The album was recorded with Jay Maas, known for his work with the hardcore band Defeater and for producing numerous alternative rock acts. Maas helped shape the record’s balance between raw energy and clarity. Mastering was handled by Kris Crummett, a producer and engineer widely associated with modern alternative and post-hardcore recordings, ensuring the final sound retains both punch and detail.

Many of the songs on Wash Away grew out of ideas that had been circulating within the band since the COVID period, when writing sessions and unfinished fragments accumulated over time. These pieces were later refined and developed into fully realized tracks, giving the album a sense of emotional continuity.

The single “Gin” serves as a powerful introduction to the record’s aesthetic. Built on thick layers of fuzzed guitars and driven by a forceful rhythm section, the track captures the band’s ability to combine shoegaze density with post-hardcore urgency.

Across the album, Bleach the Sky maintain a careful balance between atmosphere and aggression. Some moments drift into almost dreamlike territory, where guitars shimmer under layers of reverb. Others explode into walls of distortion and pounding drums, emphasizing the band’s heavier roots.

Influential echoes can be heard throughout the record. The emotional alternative rock of Jimmy Eat World, the textured heaviness of Nothing, the melodic intensity of Teenage Wrist, and the expansive alt-rock soundscapes of Incubus all resonate within the band’s sonic DNA.

Within today’s guitar-driven revival, Bleach the Sky belong to a growing movement of bands reconnecting with the emotional intensity of late-90s and early-2000s alternative rock while blending it with the atmospheric qualities of contemporary shoegaze.

With Wash Away, the Boston trio deliver a record that feels both nostalgic and urgent. It is heavy without losing melody, atmospheric without losing impact - a powerful snapshot of modern alternative rock shaped by distortion, emotion, and restless energy.
