CASTLEBEAT Releases Nostalgic Album "Stereo"
Josh Hwang, the creative force behind CASTLEBEAT, has unveiled "Stereo," a new album that breathes fresh life into his DIY bedroom lo-fi project started in 2015. The album is a nostalgic journey, evoking the charm of the 80s and 90s with its retro-inspired soundscapes, reminiscent of the era of old televisions and cassette tapes.
Opening with the track “WISH,” Hwang sets the tone with a mix of synth effects, electronic drums, and layered guitar riffs in stereo mode.
A notable evolution in Hwang’s musical approach is evident in his embrace of faster tempos on tracks such as “Downstairs” and “Poolside.” This shift marks a departure from the shoegaze style of his previous successes like “Dreamgaze” and “Change Your Mind.” While some fans may miss the shoegazing vibe, "Stereo" reflects significant growth in both composition and production, all while staying true to the lo-fi essence that has defined Hwang's work.
The album’s 45-minute duration flies by, filled with sounds that echo the debut charm of Fazerdaze’s “Morning Side” and the dreamy guitar work of Beach Fossils’ “What A Pleasure.”
Josh Hwang’s dedication to his craft and his support for emerging artists through his label are evident in "Stereo." His latest project not only reinforces his reputation as an innovative artist but also offers listeners a nostalgic yet refreshing auditory experience, blending the past and present in a unique sonic tapestry.
