The Horrors Announce New Album Night Life and Drop Single “More Than Life”
The Horrors have officially announced the release of their highly anticipated new album, Night Life, due out March 21 via Fiction Records. Alongside the announcement, the band has unveiled their latest single, “More Than Life,” accompanied by a striking music video.
In a statement, the band described the track as possessing a “different type of intensity” compared to their recent releases. They elaborated: “‘More Than Life’ is more direct and propulsive. It was born amidst the stark surroundings of Canary Wharf, which feels increasingly like something out of Blade Runner. The creative process there felt oddly insular, as though the outside world had faded away. The song explores the question of what truly matters, and by that point, we were laser-focused on our direction.”
The new single follows three earlier tracks from the album. “The Silence That Remains,” the first to be shared, was lauded as one of the standout Songs of the Week upon release. The follow-up, “Trial By Fire,” arrived with a captivating music video and also earned a spot among the week’s top tracks. Most recently, the expansive seven-minute epic “Lotus Eater” topped the same list.
Night Life marks The Horrors’ first full-length project in eight years, following 2017’s V. Since then, the band released the Lout and Against the Blade EPs in 2021, showcasing their evolving sound. This upcoming record also introduces a refreshed lineup, with founding members Faris Badwan (vocals) and Rhys Webb (bass) joined by Amelia Kidd on keyboards and Jordan Cook (formerly of Telegram) on drums. Original guitarist Joshua Hayward contributed to the recording, while former members Tom Furse (keyboards) and Joe Spurgeon (drums) are absent, with Furse departing the band in 2021.
The album’s creation began with demos crafted by Badwan and Webb in Webb’s North London apartment. Production duties were handled in Los Angeles by Yves Rothman (known for his work with Yves Tumor and Blondshell), with additional contributions recorded in London and Glasgow. Guitarist Hayward played a pivotal role in finalizing the record, alongside contributions from Kidd, who worked remotely.
As The Horrors gear up for the release of Night Life, fans can anticipate a blend of fresh energy and the band’s signature dark, atmospheric sound. The stage is set for an exciting new chapter in their career.
