The dream pop pair known as deary, based in the UK capital, has unveiled a fresh track, "Sleepsong", today, October 5th, 2023. This single is a glimpse into their self-titled extended play record, scheduled for release on November 17th through Sonic Cathedral. It will be accessible in digital format, various vinyl options, and a CD that includes five extra songs and remixes. Ben Easton, the group's guitarist, handled the production and mixing, while Dom Freeman provided vocal engineering and supplementary production, and Simon Scotton of Slowdive managed the mastering while contributing drums and keys. Their initial single, "Fairground," launched late in January and swiftly ascended to the top of the Official Charts’ vinyl singles. Subsequent to that, they introduced the ominously charming “Beauty In All Blue Satin” and sharpened their live performances, most recently performing in Nottingham's Old Cold Store.
In November, specifically on the 3rd, they will be the opening act for Slowdive at London's Troxy. Ben Easton, the guitarist and producer, reflects on an oddly delightful year of musical and personal exploration, enjoyable collaborations, and fun, expressing the duo's intent to take their time discovering their musical identity, resisting the urge to hastily create an album. The vocalist, Dottie, regards the EP as an initial glimpse into deary's musical universe and their operational mode. She shares that their initial connection was forged through a shared admiration for '90s alternative tunes and a shared desire to navigate through that musical landscape. Dottie values working with Ben for the freedom and exploratory space it provided her, acknowledging Anna Calvi’s narrative prowess and Leonard Cohen’s raw romantic expressions as significant influences on the EP’s writing.
