Movieland - Then & Now

Vancouver's shoegaze pioneers, Movieland, are set to release their highly anticipated album, Then & Now, on December 13, 2024, via 604 Records' archival imprint, 604 Decades. This collection features a blend of unreleased tracks and demos from the band's formative years in the early 1990s, offering a nostalgic journey through their distinctive soundscapes.

In advance of the album's release, Movieland has unveiled two singles: "I Relate" and "I Got This for You (For Christmas)." "I Relate," released on October 22, 2024, encapsulates the band's signature blend of dreamy melodies and introspective lyrics, reflecting the angst and self-doubt characteristic of their early work. The track is available for streaming on platforms such as Bandcamp.

The second single, "I Got This for You (For Christmas)," released on November 8, 2024, showcases Movieland's ability to infuse holiday themes with their shoegaze aesthetic. This track is also accessible on major streaming services, providing listeners with a seasonal yet uniquely Movieland experience.

Movieland, founded in 1991 by songwriter Alan D. Boyd, has been revered for their immersive soundscapes that defined a unique chapter in Vancouver's underground music scene. Their forthcoming album, Then & Now, aims to rekindle the connection with audiences, both old and new, by bringing these long-awaited songs to light.

The release of Then & Now marks a significant moment for 604 Records, as it embarks on the 604 Decades project to celebrate Vancouver's rich musical history. By shining a spotlight on Movieland and other local acts from the 90s and early 2000s, the label aims to revive memories of a vibrant alternative music scene.

As the release date approaches, fans can look forward to an album that not only honors Movieland's past but also reaffirms their place in the evolving narrative of shoegaze and dream pop. Then & Now promises to be a treasure trove of demos and unreleased tracks that capture the raw energy of Movieland’s early days, proving that great art deserves a second chance in the spotlight.
