Soft Science - Lines

The Northern California-based quintet, Soft Science, continues to captivate listeners with their innovative and earnest approach to music. Known for their captivating blend of genres and their unflinching commitment to pushing boundaries, their fourth LP, "Lines" (Shelflife Records - US | Spinout Nuggets - UK | Fastcut Records - Japan), stands as a testament to their musical journey and evolution.

Once praised by Popmatters as having "the potential to become one of the great Left Coast power pop bands," Soft Science has since delved into new, noisier territories of dream pop. Their sound now features an intriguing mix of dark wave elements, highlighting the band's willingness to continually reinvent and experiment.

"Lines" was crafted under unique circumstances, starting in 2019. The band was forced to work both collectively and separately due to the constraints of the pandemic, and this unique mode of creation infused the album with a distinct energy. The joy of their eventual in-person reunion to finalize the mix reverberates through the record, providing an additional layer of excitement.

Thematically, "Lines" reflects on the nuances of living and loving in today's fast-paced digital era, addressing the complexities and challenges that come with it. The album's release is scheduled for September 8, 2023.

The members of Soft Science include Katie Haley on vocals, Ross Levine on guitar and synths, Matt Levine on guitar, Tony Cale on drums and percussion, Becky Cale on bass and backing vocals, and Hans Munz handling electronics.

"Lines" showcases the collective genius of Soft Science, with all band members contributing to its composition and arrangement. The production was expertly handled by Tony Cale and Ross Levine, while Tony Cale also oversaw the engineering and mixing. The album was masterfully finalized by Peter Maher, while John Conley from Blkbrix brought the visual elements of the album to life through his art direction and design. The band's journey was smoothly managed by Jeremy P. Goldstein.

"Lines" is a testament to Soft Science's journey as a band and their continuous growth as artists. Their dedication to exploring new sonic territories while maintaining their core pop sensibilities is palpable throughout the record, making it an exciting addition to their musical repertoire.
