SQÜRL - Silver Haze

More than a decade after forming in 2009, SQÜRL, the musical collaboration between Jim Jarmusch and Carter Logan, has released their highly anticipated debut album, "Silver Haze." Initially coming together to create the soundtrack for Jarmusch's film "The Limits of Control," SQÜRL has since crafted numerous EPs and soundtracks, refining their signature sound while drawing inspiration from artists such as Sunn O))), Boris, Earth, Zola Jesus, and Marissa Nadler.

"Silver Haze," produced by Randall Dunn, boasts collaborations with Charlotte Gainsbourg, Anika, and Marc Ribot, culminating in an enthralling album that channels the energy of the New York School of Poets. This artistic connection is exemplified in the track "John Ashbery Takes a Walk," in which Charlotte Gainsbourg transforms two of Ashbery's poems into a bewitching, melodic siren song.

The album demonstrates SQÜRL's dedication to constructing rich, textured soundscapes through experimentation with a wide array of instruments and techniques. This includes using analog synths and broken radios, as well as finding inspiration from unconventional sources such as painters, writers, and street birds. "Silver Haze" masterfully blends spoken word, dynamic instrumentals, drone riffs, and distorted effects, all underpinned by tubular bells, cello, and SQÜRL's signature stacks of delay.

Listeners are invited on a sonic journey that wraps them in an oscillating embrace that is both delicate and devastating, reflecting the poetic sensibilities and creative depth that define SQÜRL's unique sound. "Silver Haze" stands as a testament to the band's artistic evolution and their ability to challenge conventional music-making, providing listeners with an immersive and unforgettable experience.
