Simon Scott, the drummer for Slowdive, has initiated a new and creatively open project named Three Quarter Skies. Their upcoming EP, "Universal Flames," embodies the birth and evolution of the project and has emerged from a semi-impromptu live performance recorded in late 2022. The newly released single, "On Fire," has its roots in a set of songs that didn't align with Slowdive's aesthetic and were initially performed at a London club, Folklore, after a spontaneous invitation to play. The inception of "On Fire" is interwoven with an unexpected delay due to a fire in Old Street, inspiring hastily penned lyrics in a taxi. Three Quarter Skies functions as a flexible and boundaryless creative endeavor, with Dottie from deary, a Sonic Cathedral labelmate, contributing vocals to the EP’s initial track, "Opener".
