Wave Decay Paints Sonic Landscapes with Reflections

The Denver-based quartet Wave Decay has returned with their latest album, Reflections, released on January 7, 2025. Known for their ability to craft immersive soundscapes, the multi-instrumentalist ensemble has delivered a deeply atmospheric collection of tracks that explore the intersection of motorik precision, lush drones, and fuzz-laden climaxes.

The band comprises Jeffrey Deakyne (vocals, lead guitar, synth), Marisa Dal Santo (vocals, bass), Mason Peters (drums, tambourine), and Payton Funk (organ, synth, guitar). Together, they seamlessly blend their individual strengths into a cohesive sound that rises to ethereal peaks, captivating listeners with its balance of texture and rhythm. From the hypnotic pulse of motorik-inspired drum patterns to the soaring fuzz-drenched melodies, Reflections takes listeners on a journey through soundscapes that feel both meditative and expansive.

Behind the scenes, James Barone, known for his work as a mixing engineer and soundscape artist, brought the band’s vision to life with a detailed and layered production. His contributions of synths and atmospheric elements added further depth to the album, enhancing its already cinematic quality.

Standout moments on the album showcase Wave Decay's ability to seamlessly marry driving rhythms with emotive crescendos, all while maintaining a sense of introspection. Tracks like “Ethereal Peaks” and “Lost in Transmission” demonstrate their mastery of dynamics, building tension and releasing it in waves of fuzzed-out bliss.

With Reflections, Wave Decay solidifies their reputation as architects of sonic exploration. Fans of acts like Neu!, Slowdive, and Mogwai will find much to love in this latest effort—a record that feels timeless yet entirely fresh, offering a much-needed escape from the noise of the modern world.
