Stone Blind State Strike Hard with ‘Electric Lady’
Stone Blind State return with renewed force on Electric Lady, a foundation-shaking single that marks both a bold escalation in sound and a clear statement of intent. Emerging once again from Ireland’s alternative underground, the band waste no time on restraint. Clocking in at under three minutes, Electric Lady is sharp, aggressive, and unapologetically loud, a track that hits fast and leaves little room for recovery.
Following their 2024 single There She Goes, which reintroduced Stone Blind State to the Irish scene and drew attention from Hot Press, Pure M Zine, The Beat.ie, and The Sounds Won’t Stop, Electric Lady pushes the band into heavier territory. Where its predecessor leaned into a blues-inflected classic rock sensibility, the new single turns decisively toward grunge and punk, amplifying distortion, urgency, and attitude.
Sonically, Electric Lady nods unmistakably to the grit and weight of Stone Temple Pilots and Alice In Chains, yet avoids pastiche by leaning into raw momentum rather than polish. From the opening seconds, the track launches headfirst into crunchy guitar riffs, wah-heavy leads, and machine-gun drum fills. The verses snap with syncopated guitar and vocal interplay, delivering an instant hook while distortion pedals remain firmly pinned to the maximum. When the chorus lands, it does so with swagger and bite, as Martin’s call of “Electric Lady” cuts through the noise with confident menace.
The band’s history adds weight to this resurgence. Formed in 2019 by founding member Mick, Stone Blind State released the EP Alive that same year before lineup changes and the pandemic pushed the project into hiatus. The spark reignited when Mick later approached Martin with a new batch of songs, bringing the band back to life with a sharper focus and renewed urgency. Electric Lady feels very much like the product of that second wind.
Adding further muscle to the track is drummer Brendan Carthy of Cry Before Dawn, whose presence behind the kit injects relentless propulsion. His fills drive the song forward with barely a pause for breath, particularly during the blistering solo section where Mick unleashes a wailing lead that channels classic hard rock excess without losing modern bite. As the track races toward its conclusion, flashes of wah-driven chaos evoke the unhinged energy associated with Slash-era Velvet Revolver, pushing the song into its final, explosive moments.
The recording process matched the song’s intensity. The band decamped to The Orchard Recording Studio in Enniscorthy, County Wexford, with Brendan Carthy also handling production duties. The result is a track that feels immediate and physical, capturing the sensation of a live band playing at full throttle rather than a studio-polished construction.
That raw energy carries directly into the accompanying music video. Shot in a basement environment and punctuated by aggressive strobe lighting, the visuals offer a head-down assault that mirrors the song’s ferocity. A later shoot in an old stone stable, directed by Zena O’Brien of Z Visuals, pushed the spectacle further, packing the space with lights, smoke machines, and pyrotechnics to create an explosive, in-your-face performance piece that fully embodies the track’s spirit.
Beyond its standalone impact, Electric Lady also serves as an announcement. The single heralds the release of Stone Blind State’s self-titled debut album, due out on February 26. Already demonstrating a widening range and a willingness to shift gears, the band appear poised to cement their place within Ireland’s heavy alternative landscape.
With Electric Lady, Stone Blind State do not ease their way back into the conversation. They kick the door open, distortion blazing, energy unchecked, and confidence fully intact. It is a track that thrives on immediacy, attitude, and volume, and a clear signal that this chapter of the band’s story will be louder, heavier, and harder-hitting than ever.
